Skywatchers are in for a treat on July 4, when the buck moon, or July stout moon, rises in the sky. There can even be a partial lunar eclipse.
“July’s stout moon will upward push after sunset in the night of Saturday, July 4, forward of reaching prime illumination at 12: 44 A.M Eastern Time on Sunday, July 5,” explains The Old Farmer’s Almanac. “Leer towards the southeast to appear it upward push above the horizon.”
The Old Farmer’s Almanac explains that the buck moon earned its name because it happens at a time of the year when a buck’s antlers are “in stout development mode.” But any other name for the buck moon is the articulate moon.

NASA notes that there can even be a partial penumbral eclipse of the moon. In a penumbral lunar eclipse, segment of the moon passes thru the outer segment of Earth’s shadow, the affirm company says.

The moon will appear stout for approximately three days round the eclipse, from Friday night into Monday morning, making this a stout moon weekend.”
