Apollo 17: A Stereo Leer from Lunar Orbit

nasa image
Win out your red/blue glasses and test out this appropriate stereo witness of one more world. The scene was once recorded by Apollo 17 mission commander Eugene Cernan on December 11, 1972, one orbit sooner than descending to land on the Moon. The stereo anaglyph was once assembled from two photos (AS17-147-22465, AS17-147-22466) captured from his vantage level on board the Lunar Module Challenger as he and Dr. Harrison Schmitt flew over Apollo 17’s landing establish in the Taurus-Littrow Valley. The colossal, sunlit face of the mountain dubbed South Massif rises shut to the middle of the body, above the darkish floor of Taurus-Littrow to its left. Past the mountains, in direction of the lunar limb, lies the Moon’s Mare Serenitatis. Piloted by Ron Evans, the Portray Module The US is visible in orbit in the foreground against the South Massif’s height.
