What are these big blue arcs advance the Andromeda galaxy (M31)? Realized in 2022 by amateur astronomers, the faint arcs — dubbed SDSO 1 — span with reference to the same angular dimension as M31 itself. Originally, their foundation used to be a thriller: are they truly advance the Andromeda galaxy, or alternatively advance to our Solar? Now, over 550 hours of mixed publicity and a collaboration between amateur and educated astronomers has published solid proof for his or her correct nature: SDSO 1 is now not intergalactic, however a unique class of planetary nebula within our galaxy. Dubbed a Ghost Planetary Nebula (GPN), SDSO 1 is the first recognized member of a unique subclass of used planetary nebulas, alongside with seven others also currently identified. Shown in blue are extraordinarily faint oxygen emission from the shock waves, whereas the encompassing red is a hydrogen-emitting path that indicates the GPN’s age.
