Boulders on Bennu

An abundance of boulders litters the outside asteroid 101955 Bennu in this dramatic shut-up from the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft. Taken on March 28 from a distance of just 3.4 kilometers (2.1 miles) the sphere of ogle is about 50 meters accurate via while the light coloured boulder at high upright is 4.8 meters big. Seemingly a loose conglomerate rubble pile asteroid, Bennu itself spans much less than 500 meters. That’s referring to the peak of the Empire Convey Building. Mapping the shut to Earth asteroid for the reason that spacecraft’s arrival in December of 2018, the OSIRIS-REx mission plans a TAG (Contact-and-Bolt) maneuver for July 2020 to pattern Bennu’s rugged surface, returning the pattern to planet Earth in September 2023. Citizen scientists have been invited to aid take the pattern series build.
