ELVES Lightning over Italy

What’s that crimson ring in the sky? Lightning. The most recurrently seen form of lightning entails flashes of gleaming white mild between clouds. Over the final 50 years, though, other forms of greater-atmospheric lightning were confirmed, at the side of crimson sprites and blue jets. Much less neatly identified and harder to list is a distinct form of greater atmospheric lightning identified as ELVES. ELVES are regarded as created when an electromagnetic pulse shoots upward from charged clouds and impacts the ionosphere, causing nitrogen molecules to glow. The crimson ELVES ring pictured had a radius of about 350 km and modified into once captured in uninteresting March about 100 kilometers above Ancona, Italy. Years of expertise and ultra-posthaste photography had been used to take this ELVES — which lasted most spicy about 0.001 2nd.
