They had been mummified of their hundreds of thousands. Stacks and stacks of sacred ibises had been interred roughly 2,500 years ago as prayer choices. At one location by myself there are 1.75 million ibis mummies – where did the Egyptians salvage all these birds?
DNA locked internal about a of the avian mummies has now been extracted and analysed. The findings indicate that the birds weren’t reared on wide industrial-scale farms as described in outmoded hieroglyphs, nonetheless reasonably captured from the wild sooner than sacrifice and mummification.
